Creepy Implications of the Pokémon Universe: Part 3

Pokémon rule people’s lives

Pokémon as a hobby have entirely consumed everybody’s lives. You struggle to have a single conversation with a person that isn’t related to Pokémon and how flipping fantastic it is to have them. Don’t people have other interests? No one asks you what you did on the weekend, if you’ve seen any good movies or if you’d like to hang out some time. It’s just ‘Ohmygod!! How great are Pokémon?!?!’

By sending children off at age ten (essentially kicking them out of home) they are being deprived off an education. They don’t learn math, science, geography or history (except where it relates to pseudo-folk takes about Pokémon). All services and resources seem to be funneled into Pokémon, caring for Pokémon or showing off Pokémon. What does a person do for entertainment if they don’t enjoy battling Pokémon? Well, they could enter their Pokémon into beauty contests, take their Pokémon for a stroll in the park, make Pokéblocks for their Pokémon and throw rocks at Pokémon in the Safari Zone. Ok, so what if they’re not into Pokémon at all? What is there to do? Gamble.

Can’t you read a book, surf the net, play a game with friends? Why is everything about Pokémon? How can every single person in the world be that fixated with Pokémon that it’s all they can think about and do?

And you can’t just refuse to have Pokémon in your life. They are forced upon you. You aren’t able to even walk through grass without a Pokémon by your side. So your only option is to live forever in your little village that has no amenities beside a Pokémon lab or take care of a Pokémon that is now yours forever. That’s right. Once you have a Pokémon you can’t get rid of it. Sure, you can release Pokémon but you must always have at least one. There is some law that disallows you from releasing your final Pokémon. Why would anyone care? If you don’t want Pokémon what’s the point of forcing them on you? Whose benefit is it to demand someone keep a Pokémon they don’t want?

This all-consuming obsession with Pokémon corrupts these people’s lives. I’m starting to think that perhaps people would be better off without Pokémon. I mean, all this time spent with Pokémon deprives people of spending time with other people.

My final installment: Pokémon breeds poor relationships and morals
